Structural Relationships between University Life Satisfaction, Ego Identity, and Life Satisfaction: Focusing on Educational Environment and Student Development

Abstract
[Objective] This study aimed to investigate how university life satisfaction, university facility satisfaction, and satisfaction with the university and department are structurally related to self‑identity and overall life satisfaction among university students.[Contents] Panel data from the fifth wave (2021) of the Korean Education and Employment Panel Survey II were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 and AMOS 27.0. The results showed that university life satisfaction and university facility satisfaction had positive effects on satisfaction with the university and department. University life satisfaction and satisfaction with the university and department had significant effects on self‑identity. In addition, self‑identity and satisfaction with the university and department had mediating effects on the relationships between university life satisfaction, university facility satisfaction, and life satisfaction among university students.[Conclusions] This study empirically demonstrated that satisfaction with the university environment is linked to individual developmental characteristics and influences life satisfaction, and it suggested university‑level policy and educational implications to enhance students’ life satisfaction.
