ABSTRACT

[Objective] This study explores educational approaches to enhance the happiness of university students in era of super-aging society. It investigates the need for happiness-oriented education and analyzes the potential impact of Buddhist liberal arts education on students' development and life satisfaction, focusing on the course at D University. [Contents] This study examines the happiness challenges faced by university students and their demand for happiness education. It also reviews the current status of Buddhist liberal arts education at D University and evaluates the effectiveness of the “Dialogue with Digital Buddha” course. [Conclusions] First, university students had low well-being due to stressors like employment, academics, and relationships, with a high demand for practical educational solutions. Second, the Buddhist liberal arts courses at D University were lecture-based and exam-focused, failing to address students' needs. Therefore, participatory learning methods are needed. Third, the course helped students develop self-reflection and problem-solving skills, which improved life satisfaction. Buddhist liberal arts education was effective in enhancing students' well-being and personal growth.
