The Role and Task of Confucian Education in the Metaverse during the Age of De-Religionization: Focusing on Zhuzi

ABSTRACT

[Objective] The purpose of this study is to promote Confucianism activities in the metaverse in an era of non-religion, given the high proportion of non-religious individuals in the MZ generation who are actively involved in the metaverse. It also aims to examine whether Confucianism activities in the metaverse play a religious role in adhering to metaverse ethical principles at a time when metaverse ethical issues are increasing. [Contents] This study proposes the virtue of Confucianism as an alternative to solve the problem of not adhering to metaverse ethical principles due to the lack of legal enforcement. Zhuzi’s self-discipline, which voluntarily adheres to rules by possessing virtue, becomes the foundation of individual education that cultivates a gentleman avatar who realizes why they should adhere to ethical principles after seeing actions that violate them. Governing the World becomes the foundation of community education that makes one imitate a gentleman avatar who adheres to ethical principles while predicting what happens when ethical principles are violated. [Conclusions] Confucianism, which brings about virtuous customs through Rule by Virtue, can play a role in solving the problem of not adhering to metaverse ethical principles. Therefore, the author sees that Confucianism is inevitably required in an era of non-religion.
