A Study on Methodology of Catholic Religious Education for Citizenship Education: Focusing on Thomas Groome’s Theory of Education

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE To suggest implications for school religious curriculum with the theme of civic education based on Thomas Groome's theory of Catholic education. CONTENTS 1. Civics, civic education, and civic education competencies in the context of religious education. 2. ‘Mutual Respect through Understanding of Religion’, 'Educating for Intercultural Dialogue', and ‘Fraternal Love for Humanity’. 3. Thomas Groome's educational theory and Catholic religious education methodology applied to civic education.RESULTS Facilitating learner engagement through reflective classroom activities and a respectful and challenging classroom environment. Commitment to the common good and teaching through dialogue. Encourage enthusiasm, questioning, and critical reflection on justice based on their understanding of justice. Based on the meaning of Catholic, it is to respect and welcome diverse opinions. After all, civic education in religious education is not different from character education, and its teaching method is to engage learners, pay attention to the subject, express, reflect, contact, internalize, and help them make decisions.
