Public Nature of Christianity and Implications of Christian Education in Maeul Ministry

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE Purpose is to find and restores the original place for Christianity that pursues public nature: Missional Ecclesiology for the Maeul(village) Ministry. Christian education implications of Maeul ministry were discussed in order to reclaim the essence of Christianity and earn respect and trust in society in detail.CONTENTS Church is not a building or organization, but is the people of God. God is not just God of believers but of all creation. Therefore the church must concern for the community as stewards. This paper sought how Christian education processed in balancing out between individual conversion and nurture of family and society. It has gone through a long journey of both saving souls and reforming society. Maeul ministry is a practical collaboration between missiology and Christian education which is in the heart of God. To show an living example of public church, the Hongcheon-Doshimri Church was introduced. Maeul ministry impells crossing boundaries and it must be carried out with a spirituality in which action and meditation are harmonized. Maeul pastoral ministry must harmonize discipleship and citizenship, embrace the theology of marginality, and serve the people around us.RESULTS Through critical reflection on ecclesiology and harsh evaluation of Christianity in the eyes of people outside the church, the need for genuine ecclesiological conversion is confirmed. Maeul ecclesiology will restore its original place and make the church will become a haven and brings hope in the world, and she will restore trust from society. By restoring the essence of a healthy church through Maeul ministry, the church will fulfill its mission as salt and light.
