An Analysis and evaluation of the school textbookof Won-Buddhism

ABSTRACT

The objective of this thesis is to analyze the educational religious textbooks that are taught in schools. More importantly, this paper hopes to create a template to evaluate the effectiveness of these texts which are considered the foundation of religious education and cooperation. Since the category of textbooks is quite broad, this thesis will focus on the "Won-Buddhist religious textbook" which refers to specific school textbooks that are published by Won-Buddhism. In addition, it will also refer to books that are being used at the schools established by Won-Buddhism.The first part of my thesis attempts to outline the present condition of subjects as they are taught in schools. I elaborate on this by examining the context and composition of the current textbook taught in middle school and high school called, Religion: Won-Buddhism. I would like to present the analysis and evaluation as follows:First, the school textbooks founded on ll^w-Buddhist cooperation makes a religious balance in terms of composition and context based on the Seventh Education Process. Therefore, this is enough to deal with all religions not only in the world but in Korea, as long as it is based on a broad understanding. However, in the future it will be necessary that the descriptions of other religions be made by the corresponding experts of each religion.Secondly, various Won-Buddhist religious textbooks need to be constantly developed and popularized according to each level and school. In other words, as we develop various textbooks and materials for teaching more actively, we should build desirable models for religious education and humanitarian education.Indeed, we are faced with demands for a more thorough study and in - depth development of step-by-step teaching materials. That is because most of the Won-Buddhist founding schools are restricted to only one semester or first-year students.So in order for the development of religious school textbooks of Won-Buddhism to be successful, the endeavor of re-interpretation of the Won-Buddhist essential messages is necessary. Furthermore, more effort as well as sincerity for religious education is requested.
