Digital Culture and Teaching Religion

ABSTRACT

The transition to the Information Society is causing great paradigmatic changes in the academic spheres and mass culture. Recent Genome Project shows it can make effects directly on the Human itself and its identity. By this reasons, the Digital Revolution and the Knowledge-based Information Socity are now considered not just on the technical and scientific levels but also on the ontological dimension. This article deals with the various characteristics of digital culture in the perspective of cultural philosophy. And during this process, it will also deal the issues of teaching religion in the Digital Age.The Proliferation of digital culture which is represented by multimedia computers and the Internet, is not caused only by the technological merit. The digital culture is intimate with human unconsciousness and even driving it. The digital culture opens a new way to reach the unconscious so that it can transform the human being all the whole. It initiates a new multi-interactive communications and organizes open social relations which are not biased by the genders, races, and traditional culture. It has utterly changed the way we deal with the world, and made different continents in a global village whose citizens are constituted of various races. It has made change so omnipresent that change itself has become the leitmotif of our time.The most impotent characteristic of digital culture comes from the cyberspace and the virtual. The cyberspace and the virtual have some new characteristics in comparison with the real. These transcend physical limitations and give rise to the anonymity. By this reasons, the private person can experience its multiple identities with veil of other's ignorance in the cyberspace. As a result, those bring also new opportunities and challenges to traditional philosophy and religious activities. Therefore, in this article. I will roughly attempt to examine and analyse these newly emerging phenomenons in the perspective of philosophy and religious education.
