A Study on Tasks of Religious Education for Mass Culture

ABSTRACT

This article, on he premise that it is an important problem to be solved to improve the quality of life to purify contaminated mass culture owing to commercialism, aims to show tasks of religious education for purifying mass culture. Particularly, it analyzes characteristicsof mass culture with the comparison between traditional and high culture and mass culture; furthermore, discusses with a critical attitude, propensity to relativistic values and deviation caused by the loss of independent self-determination because of the transience of image, the pursuit of intemperate pleasure as an outlet for satisfying one s desire, and the loss of morality and propensity to violence. And, in conclusion, this article presents tasks of religious education for purifying the transience of image that expansively reproduce human desire as follows. First, religous education should be a foundation to form an outlook on the world. Second, it should contribute to the unity of our society. Third, it shoul be able to offer us mental stability. Fourth, it shoud make up for deficiency from the control of the law. Fifth, it should serve us as a backsight to revaluate the value of the existing social system. Last, it should function as a helper of the the socialization of the individual.
