Korean Identity & the Religious Education of Protestantism

ABSTRACT

This thesis is a survey on the theme, the issue of Korean identity and the task of Religious education in the view of Korean Protestantism. For this, it is necessary to consider this issue of Korean identity in the context of religious history. In this point, I have noticed the spirit of harmony. This has been a basis of the religious identity of Korean people. And I also pay attention to a new situation which appeared simultaneously with the acceptance of modern western religion(Christianity). It can be said that a new period of competition and conflict among religions in the religious history of Korea. Through this reflective self-examination, it is possible to suggest the task of religious education of Korean Protestantism. It is to educate how to converse each other for the harmony of religions. In the context of Korean Protestant history, I attach great importance to the function of Protestantism as a member of the history of civilization. Current Protestant Church seems to fail in its duty. Reflective self-examination on this reality enables us to propose mission-education for local cultures and peace-education as the task of religious education of Protestantism.
