Haewon(해원) through the Korean Feeling: Focus on Han(한) and Hanpuli(한풀이)

ABSTRACT

It is not too much to say that human history is the history of grudge. The historical point of time cannot be the exception of this hypothesis. All the more, all human beings are led to annihilable situations because of a negative aspect caused by the development of material civilization: aggravated grudge by destruction of spirit and thought, moral corruption. The purpose of this study is to discuss Han and Haehan which deserve narrow meaning of grudge and Haewon by replacing grudge and Haewon with Han and Haehan as a course to understand Haewon Thought. In the course of this study, I will discuss how Han revealed as deeply concealed Korean national feelings and what kind of effect did Han have on national culture and overall society. Especially, I will illuminate that a series of conditions is not just a revenge-oriented one but has Haehan structure based on reconciliation of humanism. Through this course, I am going to clarify that Haewon Thought shown in Daesun Thought is not restricted in the level of human but expands to society, nation and even universe.
