Wonbuddhism and Cultural Studies of the University Education

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to research how the Cultural studies in Universities of Korea and especially Religious Education as a Cultural studies are carried out and present the way how to resolve the tasks concerning on that . The results are as followes .First, The aim of cultural studies in Universities of Korea is a basic course for majors, to cultivate the whole man education and to help students active adjustment in social change. Under the such a purpose, which subjects divided into obligation and options. In short those subjects operated the Optional distribution system. To develop the Cultural studies in Universities of Korea, clear the purpose of that subjects , develop the new subjects which is more creative, self controlled, relevant for their university and need to establish a support system.Second, It appeared that in Universities established by the Religion, Religious Education as a Cultural studies are operated both obligation and options.Third. In the case study of Wonkwang University established by Wonbuddhism, It appeared that Religious Education as a Cultural studies more depend upon instructors than professors, need to develop the various textbooks include the teaching materials. According to the results by the students evaluation for the teaching - instruction on that subject, also appeared that students more responded on the optional subjects than obligation. The reason to got such an output was more depended on practical approach than theocratical give us an serious implication. However it need to research how the reason why. Finally I'd like to presents some is sues on Religious education in University as followes . We have to consider the conflicts between ideology and practical per spectives on Religious education in Univer sity, conflicts between Religious education and Religious indoctrination for Religious education in University and finally, more concrete concern on how to teach those subjects etc.
