Christian Liberal Education in Korean Higher Education

ABSTRACT

T he purpose of this article is to reconceptualize the definition of "Christian liberal education" into "theo- praxis" which means by God-centered action and critical reflection, and to reconstruct the subject matter s of Korean Christian univer sity by dint of new paradigm. Generally, the Christian liberal education has been under stood in terms of a instrumental means for evangelization of missiological context in Korea. It is not proper that such a evangelical approach for Christian liberal education is only emphasized in multi-cultural religious society like Korea. Instead of that, the researcher suggests that a "theo-praxis approach" as an alternative for Christian liberal education will be more appropriated to focus on the God- centered praxis of liberation, communication and spirituality for plural society. In conclusion, when Korean Christian univer sity develops the curriculum of Christian liberal education, it will be able to consider God and praxis - centered subject matters , i.e., dialogical praxis between religions, liberating praxis for solidarity with the victims , and spiritual praxisto overcome the problem of fragmentation in modern society.
