Traditional Home Education and Shamanism in Korea

ABSTRACT

The Home has been repidly being transmuted with the profound change in the competitive society. It is important for the sound society that we overcome this kind of crisis and recover harmonious home, Especially when the home becomes the sign of the unity and peace, our society will regain the form of a dynamic community. We experience day by day an inhymane world. Such kind of crisis is commected directly with the waste home of disappeared spirituality and with the absence of home education.This situation shows us how important is the communiality which is accentuated in shamanism. Therefire this archaic religion[shamanism] stands now in the spotlight, not only of the east but also of the west. The educational value of home as basic community shows us a now vision that provides the dynamics of human life.For thousands of years, shamanism influenced enormously the life of Koreans. Limited only in home education, Korean religious tradition kept steadily important educational function through shamanistic culture, like community consciousness, this world-centered thought, pragmatic accommodation etc. This kind of shamanistic religiosity of spirituality makes the root of korean culture. And this religiosity shapes at certain reat the korean mind.It seems that the role of home is neglected in the repid and profound transition of the now millennium. In such an era it is quite meaningful to set up again the status of home as an important educational place for the culrural succession. In this context I tried to find out the principles of korean traditional home education in connection with the popular religion. Such a discovery of home-educational principle reconfirms the healthy tradition and provides the paradigme of succession and development of authenic korean culture.
