Don Bosco s Preventive Education and Counseling

ABSTRACT

We considered the preventive system against the repressive system in youth education, and reviewed Don Bosco s basic concepts and three fundamental principls, reason, love, and religion in the preventive education system. The preventive education helps youths to have a judgement based upon reason, performs education on the place with loving kindness, and reaches its ultimate religious goal of spiritual maturity. We compared the preventive system with modern counseling theories such as Ellis Rational-Emotive Therapy, Rogers person-centered-counseling, Frankls logotherapy, and Huyngdeuk Lee s Human nature realization counseling. We also discussed its relation with modern counseling techniques. We considered in modern counseling terms the preventive educational practices such as, Evening Talk , Morning Contemplation , Confession , Spiritual Guide , Personal Communication and Whispering.
