A Buddhist Temple as Educational Space in Korean Traditional Society

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research is to investigate the role of a Buddhist temple as educational space in Korean traditional society. This paper is divided into five chapters. In chapter Ⅱ, ‘A Buddhist temple as educational space of common people’, I will examine educational trace of master of a Buddhist priest, like Won Kwang(圓光), Uei Sang(義湘), Won Hyo(元曉), Jin Gam(眞鑑). Also I will examine educational trace by discipline association. In chapter Ⅲ, ‘A Buddhist temple as alternative space of Confucius school’, I will examine the role of a Buddhist temple as alternative educational space in Korean traditional society. In chapter Ⅳ, ‘A Buddhist temple as study space of an intellectual’, I will examine the role of a Buddhist temple as study and relaxation space of an intellectual in Korean traditional society. In chapter Ⅴ, ‘Conclusion’, I tried to elucidate a Buddhist temple in relation to media.
