Reception and Solution of Desire in the Perspective of Shamanism

ABSTRACT

There are two main purposes of this article: the description of desire in shamanistic world and the educational persuasion process of shamanistic ritual. First, this article explains how to receive and solve “desire” in shamanistic world[reception of good wish] with analysis how to prevent and remove obstacles against the desire, especially focusing on chaesu-kut(ritual for good fortune). Second, shamanistic rituals[ritual play as effective pray] as a transition by overcoming obstacles and realizing their goals can be considered as effective educational persuasion process. Generally, Shamanism is known as a representative religion for fortune-seeking belief in Korea. It is wide spread for people to recognize that the world of shamanism is a space where humane wish or desire is expressed plainly because they devote sacrifice to the divinities and seek fortune for themselves. There are a lot of shmanistic rituals, but chaesu-kut can be told as a remarkable ritual that expresses the “fortune-seeking” content in shamanistic belief system. In this ritual, chaesu-kut, people pray commonly for good fortune, a lot of money, health and longevity. Moreover, it might be said that the concrete contents what common people want consist more or less of these elements. Shamanism is famous as a religion without official canon. Hence, we have to look up shamans songs, story-telling, oracles, and benediction etc. in order to obtain shamanistic thoughts, dogmatic contents, and the religious practice.
