A Study on Educational Models of Religious Curriculum for Christian Religious Education Praxis－Based on Narrative Curriculum

ABSTRACT

This article aims to study on the educational models of religious curriculum for Christian Religious Education Praxis. Narrative Curriculum gives an insight to explore the educational models of religious curriculum for Christian Religious Education Praxis. The characteristics of Narrative Curriculum accords with the basic direction of the religious education in the 7th National Curriculum. The basic direction of the religious education in the 7th National Curriculum is like this: First, leaners should deal with the problems of religion in their everyday life as the direct and real issues. Second, all issues should be approached through concrete and practical ways. Third, discussions should be led to the method of exploration through the evocation of learners’ motivation. Narrative Curriculum, as narrative itself, also offers learning situations to learners for constructing their experiences and encourages ‘learners- centered’ activities. Narrative as the shape of personal identity and as the dialectical hermeneutics to appropriate story/vision to participants’ stories/vision for lived christian faith can carry out Christian Religious Education Praxis and reconstruct educational models for religious curriculum. Therefore, Narrative Curriculum can be the bases of educational models of religious curriculum for Christian Religious Education Praxis. This study revealed that ‘Praxis model’ by Groome and ‘Reinterpreting life stories model’ by Osmer based on Narrative Curriculum are adequate, appropriate, effective, and attractive educational models of religious curriculum for Christian Religious Education Praxis.
