Venerable Monk as Buddhist Intellectual in the History of Korean Ancient Education

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research is to investigate Venerable monk as Buddhist intellectual in the History of Korean ancient education. This paper is divided into four chapters. In chapter Ⅰ, ‘introduction’, I will examine the point at issue of research of History of Korean ancient education. I made a suggestion that researcher have to pay attention to the ‘man’ than to the system of education. In chapter Ⅱ, ‘Venerable monk as Buddhist intellectual’, I will give a full explanation to research issues and research method, why and how examine Venerable monk as Buddhist intellectual. In chapter Ⅲ, ‘A life of Venerable monk as Buddhist intellectual in History of Korean ancient education’, I divide the life of Venerable monk into three periods, birth and growth period, study and training period, teaching period. In chapter Ⅳ, ‘conclusion’, I tried to elucidate the difference of educational tradition of Buddhism and Confucianism. In this paper, I stressed the importance of Venerable monk as Buddhist intellectual in the History of Korean ancient education.
