A Study on Buddhistic Elements in Public Childcare Center

ABSTRACT

This research was held to learn some implications for the operation of public childcare centers run by Buddhist foundation, which appear to be increased from now on. This research covers the harmony between standard childcare curriculum and Buddhistic elements in public childcare center run by Buddhist foundation. For this purpose, this research analyzed reference materials about childcare and observed a class in a public childcare center located in Seoul run by Buddhist foundation for 80 hours in september and October 2010, and also interviewed 12 practician and 6 children. As a result, a public childcare center tentatively named ‘Lotus childcare center’ demonstrated that they can carry out their duties as public childcare center, while teaching Buddhism’s core lessons integrated with childcare activity, at the same time. Therefore, if childcare center run facilities wisely, it will be a great opportunity to earn public interest and Buddhistic social welfare. So this research suggest that we should spur the establishment of Buddhist foundations and be more concerned about the increasing trust of public childcare centers.
