A Study on Instructional Models and Instructional Cases in Religious Subject

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to investigate the classes of religious subject in the secondary school of Unification Church and to search some tips for improvement of religious teacher training system. I deal with four issues as follows. First, I clarify the characteristics of the religious subject in the national level. Second, I investigate the meaning of instructional model. Third, I look into the reality of religious classes and analyze the instructional models of religious classes. Finally. I mention some tips for improvement of the religious teacher training system. Korean secondary school students are under pressure for college entrance. The religious teachers in the secondary school of Unification Church try to communicate with their students by interesting lessons and to focus on character education. In religious classes, the teachers apply instructional models which consisted of learning goals, teaching method, teaching-learning activity of introduction-expansion-finish, formative assessment, etc. In conclusion, I suggest as follows. Religious teacher training system needs to go close to the reality of secondary school. Religious teachers also need more education about instructional model and instructional design, both pre-service and in-service.
