Religious Education and Human Right of Unificationism

ABSTRACT

As religion is one of important parts of culture, the discourse about human right in religion is naturally significant. The human right in religion can be divided into two parts. One is devotional discrimination in a religion. The other is discrimination and suppression in a religion between religions or between religion and society. Therefore, religious education should cover the discourse about human right in religion and way to overcome the discrimination and suppression. This paper will examine and analyze the problem of human right in the field of religious education in Unificationism. Unificationism puts emphasis on the freedom of education and students’ freedom of religion. As the social role of religion is to overcome conflicts and to integrate society, the freedom of religion and human right should be taught. According to survey, most of students(90.6%) know that Sunmoon university is established by Unificationism and the human right in the field of education has been relatively well accomplished. However, there is some parts to draw our attention in terms of human right in Unificationism. For example, the survey shows that alternative class instead of religious class is well not recognized(84.8%). It means the freedom of religious class is disturbed. Therefore, we have to study and practice several methods to make students recognize alternative class. Thus, preserving the freedom of religion and human right can make the freedom of religious education improve.
