A Study of Religious Education to Embody the Founding Ideals of Sun Moon University

ABSTRACT

The Founding Ideal of the University founded by a religion in korea explain the ideal (truth) of the religion very well. Religious education of the university is to practice the founding ideal. A study of religious education in the university is not only a important working of education, but also a significant work to seek the religion’s role in the part of the solution to contemporary problem which is to lose human nature. I think that it needs to study of practical instruction, because to study of religious education is generally theoretical studying. Through empirical analysis of my eight years teaching, I found a concrete method of religious education that embodies founding ideals of Sun Moon University. The course is titled, “Conscience Class” and the method used is centered on the conscience. The key point of this method is teaching how to use one’s conscience in order to develop good character with conscience ability. The contents of “Conscience Class” is consisted of conscience-awaking, consciencelistening, checking, talking, acting and testing. Through this method I found great effect and possibilities in students with their character development. They demonstrate confidence to execute the power of their own conscience. This religious education embodies the founding ideals of the Sun Moon University.
