ABSTRACT

Today, we live in a postmodern era; nevertheless, no one denies that our traditions and cultural effects on high school students last until adulthood. The goal of this paper is to search for an alternative cultural content of Christian religious education with a concept of entertainment storytelling towards Korean tradition and Christian religious education unity. This paper is a designed experiment to view the high-school students understanding of cultural contents on cultural contents of school textbooks from a first grade to third grade level across Seoul, Gyunggi province, and Inchon. The measurements of an effect of cultural contents from both school textbooks and a prejudice of school teachers were conducted through the form of a questionnaire. This study was conducted for two years. Related to this study, the previous study was to provide the educators with the significance of Christian religious education related to ‘cultural contents’ and Christian cultural contents. In addition, the previous study reviews the relationship between public schools and Korean religious traditions. The purpose of this paper is as follows: First, this paper compared understanding of Christian students to non Christian students broadly based on students’ concerns about school textbooks. Secondly, it reviews students evaluation by considering the meaning of what Korean religious traditions is by analyzing entertainment storytelling from textbooks in public schools. Thirdly, the results of the questionnaire show that Christian students are much aware of the significance of relationship between Christian cultural contents, Korean religious traditions,and entertainment storytelling. This is an important finding of the influence of entertainment storytelling style textbooks on public schools that high school students have developed a deepening Christian cultural content and Korean cultural content.
