The Children Standing on the Matrix: Proclaim Your Stories!

ABSTRACT

This research paper deals with how the online violent narrative makes a human being become destructive, pointing the case of a middle school student who had suffered from the online violence by his peer group, and finally committed suicide in Dae-gu city. Being an independent human means that he/she is able to overcome the feeling of helplessness, and have his/her own narrative. In this case, however, he was not able to resist against the online-violence, and had to committe suicide because he was confused about his distorted identity in cyber space. It is another reason for his suicide that the real world where he lived did not offer a safe environment to speak his own narrative. Exploring this case study, I have arrived a strong conviction that to have own narrative, a human being have to experience “acceptance.” To explain the addressed thesis statement, I deal with three important tools to experience ‘acceptance’ in Christian theology as follows: (1) Christian worship service, which offers hospitality, (2) the Christian Bible as a mutual text that has multiple meanings, and (3) the therapeutic effect through destruction and reconstitution of a narrative. In addition, Christian theology, the basis of above three tools, should not exclude the meaning of darkness, but rather actively accept it. It also contributes to recover the wholeness of human life through reflecting the tragedy of irony in the narrative.
