Christian-theological Viewpoints about Death and After-death

ABSTRACT

This paper has described Christian viewpoints about death and after-death. However, we should pay attention to the fact that the Christian viewpoints about death and after-death is not univocal, and emphasize what is at stake in the discussion in the Christian theological history and especially in modern theology, Above all, we pay attention to today’s view that dualism of soul and body is rejected in the antagonism of two themes of immortality of the soul and resurrection of the body, and we sought how to succeed the entire death theory (Ganztodtheorie) proposed by modern theologians. In the course of the discussion, this paper emphasized the ‘creation from memory’(creatio ex memoria) and the community character of the bodily resurrection in relation to the question of the identity of the dead. Through this, Christian faith believes that the identity of the dead is entirely preserved by God Himself.
