The Fourth Industrial Revolution and Religious Education of Daesoonjinrihoi

ABSTRACT

With an increased social interest on the Fourth Industrial Revolution, there are many discussions being made about possible social reformative changes and plans to deal with financial crisis that could be caused as the consequence. Also, major countries have already begun to make active movements to lead a new change in the world. However, some people are questioning the validity of the concept of the Fourth Industrial Revolution while some are raising their voices over the negative effects. One of the major concerns is job reduction. It seems obvious that job reduction will not only lead to the downsizing of labor market, but also the bigger polarization between occupations. The widening of income gap will be followed by deepening of inequality. Furthermore, it is doubtful whether the convenient living style could be shared by all people. Above all, the rapid technical development could cause social alienation for neglected people who failed to catch up with the social changes. As the result, it can bring negative effects such as social and cultural exclusion. Now is the time to establish a system of counteractive measures that could prevent beforehand any damages of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and let all members of the society have the benefit of the advancement. In this context, the first and the most important step would be the change of education policy. When the Fourth Industrial Revolution seem to be currently evoking intense competition among nations, the capacity of human resource will be one of the major variables. But our current education is optimized for raising humans who are suitable for the Second Industrial Revolution. In this regard, we need a groundbreaking transformation and reformation of education policy. This study is focused on the idea of Sangsaeng(Mutual Benefience) for religious education of Daesoonjinrihoi. The society today, when many different values coexist in much complex interconnections, requires an universal value by which people can trust and respect each other and realize a harmonious society where there are no mutual conflicts or confrontations. Facing the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the idea of Sangsaeng can be a value and ethical rule that enables people to resolve conflicts and communicate openly regardless of their classes and evolve into a new society of reconciliation and cooperation.
